I’m a big chocolate fan! And I could eat pounds of it at the time; trust me, there have been days when I actually ate that much due to my depression and anxiety attacks. Chocolate seemed the only successful way to keep those demons under control.
But I know so much chocolate is not good for my health on a long term, especially since store bought chocolate is made with so many preservatives aka chemicals. So I’ve come to the point where I indulge but only once in a while. I’m an adult, I can control myself.
But that’s not the case in kids. When they like stuff they have to get it immediately and they get addicted to it, sugar in particular, in a snap. That’s why I try and teach my daughter balance and if she must have sweets, they’d better be healthy, preferably something I made.
Certainly your child loves chocolate too; that’s generally a feature of childhood, isn’t it? There are lots of options for kids these days, but all that seems better and healthier is a homemade dessert, especially since you know exactly the ingredients (which you can actually pronounce).
Here is a recipe for a healthy homemade chocolate that you can confidently serve to your child and you can also indulge in, once in a while. Isn’t it surprising that chocolate can actually be healthy food? This egg and dairy less vegan homemade chocolate proves it plenty!
You may want to adjust the recommended cocoa powder quantity depending on how strong and rich you like the chocolate to taste. I personally like a softer texture and taste so after trying the recipe with the recommended cocoa amount, I tried a version with less cocoa which tasted better to me. I ended up making 2 layers chocolate candies but next time I’ll use just half the cocoa powder. Your chocolate might taste different than mine depending on the brand you’re purchasing cocoa from. Experiment with your favorite cocoa brand first.
