A deep love of chocolate in the family and a sweet tooth for success, Mulu Chocolate was born.
During a month long ‘escape from reality’ to Cornwall during the summer of 2007, Ben Fordham and Kaycee Burnett were introduced to raw chocolate, by Ben’s mother, Jeannie.
Initially elated with the idea that chocolate could be good for you, it wasn’t long before they felt that perhaps the products on offer were not entirely comparable to commercial chocolates, in terms of taste and texture and that in fact, people interested in their health were being a little short changed when it came to indulgence!

With this in mind, Ben set about making his own raw chocolate in pursuit of the ‘perfect’ recipe. Of course, in the beginning there were no moulds or machines – just Ben in a Cornish cottage kitchen, with the kids milling about and Kaycee reading yet another book. It was only when they returned from Cornwall that the real research began, equipment was purchased and a dream started to unfold.
Ben spent many months absorbed in chocolate alchemy, and his dedication to perfection resulted in three amazingly beautiful chocolate recipes for you to delight in.
Kaycee has supported the creation of Mulu Raw Chocolate with research and plenty of encouragement; supplying solutions when they are scarce, sourcing ingredients, finding suppliers, developing the branding, packaging and website (only possible with the hard work and commitment of Stephen Connolly at Hit the Ground Creative Graphics and sixredsquares) and generally devoting herself to the co-creation of a new way of life, together with Ben and the kids. This shared aspiration and drive has led the family to take the big, bold and brave step to move across many counties, from Essex to beautiful Devon during August 2011!!

Ben and Kaycee are incredibly fortunate to have the amazing, unfaltering support and expert advice of their friend & colleague, Elizabeth Montgomery (Holistic Nutritional Therapist / British Association of Nutritional Therapists). Elizabeth Montgomery holds a Diploma in Natural Nutrition, and runs a busy private practice in Nottinghill, London. She has lectured in Nutritional Therapy across England and Scotland, training people to become practitioners and she speaks at nutritional workshops around the world.
